Cape Town became the centre of the Bridgerton universe on Saturday, 24 January, as Netflix unveiled BridgertonSeason 4 with a launch that was equal parts romance, spectacle, and cultural flex. Drawing from the season’s core theme — the unmasking of true love — the evening unfolded as an opulent Afro-couture masquerade, where Regency-era fantasy collided beautifully with contemporary African design.
Set against the striking architecture of Zeitz MOCAA at the V&A Waterfront, the event felt like a modern-day society ball — dramatic, fashion-heavy, and unapologetically luxe. Think corsetry meets craftsmanship, powdered wigs reimagined through an Afro-futurist lens, and masks that told stories before a word was spoken.
Guiding the night with effortless charisma were Bonang Matheba and Jonathan Boyton-Lee, whose hosting matched the scale of the moment. The red carpet quickly turned into a roll call of South African cultural royalty, with appearances from Zozibini Tunzi, Khanyi Mbau, Dineo Langa, Ntobeko Sishi, the Mbombo Twins, Vincent Mahlaphe (Bad Influencer), and more — each bringing their own interpretation of high drama and high fashion.
A standout moment of the night was the celebration of the ever-expanding Bridgerton world. Fan-favourite cast members Emma Naomi (Alice Mondrich) and Martins Imhangbe (Will Mondrich) were in attendance, grounding the evening in global star power. Joining them was South Africa’s own Masali Baduza, who makes history this season as the first South African actor to enter the Bridgerton universe, debuting as Michaela Stirling. Her presence marked more than just a casting milestone — it was a cultural moment, signalling the franchise’s deeper embrace of global storytelling.
With Cape Town now officially stamped into Bridgerton lore, the countdown begins.
Bridgerton Season 4, Part 1 premieres exclusively on Netflix on 29 January.
