Cape Town came alive this past weekend as the world’s best breakers returned to the Mother City for the FUJIFILM Instax Undisputed Breaking World Championship. On 6 December 2025, the V&A Waterfront transformed into a high-energy arena, hosting the fourth qualifier ahead of the Tokyo World Final in March 2026. Fans were treated to a showcase of athleticism, creativity, and raw hip-hop culture that highlighted Cape Town’s thriving scene.
Solo Battles: Hiro10 and India dominate
Japanese b-boy Hiro10 stole the show in the Solo Men’s category, taking on Gravity (USA) in a showdown that pushed the limits of skill and performance. With a commanding 3-0 victory, Hiro10 claimed the top spot, thrilling the crowd with his precision, power moves, and signature style. South African breakers The Curse, Bashi, Toufeeq, and Shady also made it into the top eight, proving that the local talent pool is strong and competitive.
On the women’s side, three-time world champion India (NLD) put on a masterclass, defeating b-girl Karla (REN) 2-0 in the semi-finals before edging Stefani (UKR) to take the Solo Women’s title. Her technical brilliance and relentless drive reminded the audience why she is one of the world’s elite.
“I’m so happy I’ve won in South Africa. I felt a real connection with the people here and loved the great atmosphere. I’m thrilled that now I get the chance to move on to the final in Japan,” said India after her victory.
Crew Battles: Breaknation takes the crown
The 5v5 crew battle brought some of the fiercest action, with CPT Elite (RSA) making a strong run into the semi-finals before falling to Breaknation (WORLD). Breaknation, a powerhouse squad featuring Hiro10, Stefani, Gravity, and Johnny Fox (ESP), ultimately clinched the final. South African fan favorite Toufeeq, a member of Breaknation, will also head to Tokyo for the finals, adding local pride to the global lineup.
“I feel really good. I’m so inspired to go to Japan, and so happy to be part of this crew,” said Toufeeq.
A celebration of hip-hop culture
DJs and MCs kept the energy electric throughout the event, while judges scored performances live using the Trivium Judging System, ensuring transparent results across physical, artistic, and interpretative criteria. The championship not only celebrated breaking but also showcased Cape Town as a global hub for hip-hop culture.
In an exciting announcement, the organisers confirmed that Cape Town will now be a regular stop on the FUJIFILM Instax Undisputed Breaking World Championship calendar, further solidifying the city’s status as a breaking powerhouse.
With the Cape Town qualifier wrapped, all eyes now turn to Tokyo 2026, where the world’s top breakers will collide in the ultimate test of skill, creativity, and athleticism.
