After seven years of shaping South African youth culture and leaving an indelible mark on the local music scene, Cotton Fest has officially come to an end. The announcement, made on Tuesday, 9th December 2025, marks the close of one of the country’s most iconic youth festivals.

The decision comes after ongoing differences among current shareholders, whose visions for the festival’s future diverged from that of its founder, Riky Rick. These disagreements created operational challenges that made it difficult to continue Cotton Fest while staying true to the standards, creativity, and cultural ethos that defined the event.

“Cotton Fest has always been rooted in creativity, community, and cultural celebration, creating a platform for the youth to shine,” said festival owner and organiser Bianca Naidoo. “While we are incredibly proud of what the festival has achieved, and grateful to the fans, partners, and artists who have supported us over the years, it became clear that concluding this chapter is the most realistic path forward.”

Riky Rick’s partner, Bianca Naidoo, together with the Makhado family, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to Cotton Fest’s legacy. From artists who graced its stages to the fans who filled the venue year after year, Cotton Fest became more than a festival — it was a movement, a home for creativity, and a celebration of South African youth culture.

Although the festival in its current form will no longer continue, the Creative Programme, launched in 2025, will carry forward Cotton Fest’s mission of empowering young talent. The initiative aims to provide new opportunities for emerging creatives, ensuring that Riky Rick’s vision of nurturing artistic expression lives on in fresh and meaningful ways.

Current ticket holders are advised to request full refunds via Webtickets, effective immediately.

While this chapter closes, the impact of Cotton Fest on South Africa’s arts and entertainment landscape is undeniable — a legacy of community, culture, and creativity that will continue to inspire future generations.
